The word “detox” may sound like just another buzz word, but the detoxification process is an essential part of human health.  In fact, everyone has a built-in mechanism to naturally remove toxins, cell waste and other materials from the body.  Unfortunately in today’s world, the body’s natural detoxification system is overloaded with an unnatural amount of toxic buildup, which makes it impossible to function at its best.

Toxic buildup accumulates from many sources, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, chemicals in our home, pollutants all around us, as well as artificial ingredients and pesticides in our food.  Rather than being filtered out by natural detoxification pathways, the waste and toxic materials are often left to linger inside the body.

Over time, these toxins can cause functional changes that affect our overall health, contributing to an increased risk of disease.  Some of the key signs that your body is overloaded by toxic waste are: constipation, persistent headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, food allergies, trouble with weight loss, acne, and hormonal imbalances.

Have you ever been constipated, felt bloated, had excess gas, or felt like something just wasn’t right?  Many people don’t realize that some of the physical ailments they feel on a daily basis are a result of a body that is loaded with toxins, in desperate need of detox.

When we eat highly processed, refined foods, our colons become laden with the unhealthy debris from these foods.  These ‘fake’ foods are filled with toxins in the form of high fructose syrups, hydrogenated oils, food dyes, MSG, preservatives, and other ingredients that do damage to our vital organs.  As Dr. Axe explains, “it’s vital that all Americans wake up to these deadly facts and take action”.  Eliminating fake foods is crucial, but many times this isn’t enough.   It’s also vital to help your colon remove these deadly wastes.

In this article, Dr. Axe suggests the most effective and all natural detox for robust health, without needing any of the advertised detox products being sold on the market…

Detoxification is a natural healing process of neutralizing and eliminating toxins from the tissues and organs of the body.  It’s the job of the liver to eliminate the harmful chemicals, toxins, and byproducts of metabiolism from the bloodstream, and alter them into safer substances that can be excreted via the organs of elimination.  This process is always happening automatically, but with the amount of harmful chemicals in our environment, food, personal care products, and medications that many of us come in contact with, our toxic burden can overload.
When the liver is unable to deal with the excess amount of toxins, these substances can continue to move through the body, causing disruption and damage before eventually being stored in the fat cells of our organs and tissues.  The overwhelming burden of toxic overload can result in all sorts of chronic and degenerative conditions.  By engaging in a detoxification program, we are actively assisting and supporting the body’s own natural cleansing actions.

Our body’s built-in detoxification pathways are powered by important organs: the intestines, skin, lungs, liver and kidneys.  These organs, when healthy, will eliminate toxins, but when our body is overloaded with toxins the functioning of these organs can deteriorate and become unable to handle the toxin build-up.

When our body’s natural detoxification pathways aren’t working correctly, we need to implement a detoxification plan. A good detoxification program should include the following:

  • Directly removing toxins
  • Supporting or cleansing the organs involved in detoxification so the body can more effectively detoxify on its own
  • Replacing toxin input where possible — therefore reducing the everyday toxin burden on the body
There are a variety of detoxification programs available, and these important methods can offer a solid “jump-start.” But true detoxification cannot be a one-time event: it must become a way of life for the effects to be long-lasting…
