Get Eight Hours of Sleep Each Night

You’ve probably heard it before – getting a good night’s sleep is important!  Although most of us know that sleep is important, many of us are simply not getting the quality sleep needed to reap the health benefits.  And getting a good night’s sleep is sometimes easier said than done.

I was right there with you just a few years ago.  It took me a long time to truly understand the significance of sleep and the role sleep plays in our overall health.  Once I embraced the concept and dug into the research, I started to realize that quality sleep is not optional, but absolutely essential for optimal health.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, insufficient sleep has been linked to a number of chronic conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression.  Sleep deprivation has the same effect on your immune system as physical stress or illness.

Experts agree that adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep each night, in order for the brain and body to restore, recharge, and get ready for the next day.  In fact, chronic lack of sleep has a cumulative negative impact on your health. The less sleep you get, the more stress will affect you, the more your immune system will weaken, and the greater your chances of becoming ill will be.

It’s not always easy to establish a good sleep schedule.  It may take some time to figure out your unique situation, but it can be done.  You can eat well, exercise regularly, and even embrace a regular detoxification program, but if you don’t sleep well, your health will suffer.  Do whatever it takes to make this critical lifestyle change.  Your health depends on it.
